Seville is a great place to shop, offering everything from regional crafts and ceramics to chic designer fashions and accessories. Seville’s main shopping area is in the streets surrounding C/Sierpes. Shops – except for the larger department stores such as El Corte Inglés – generally close during the afternoon siesta (roughly 1.30–5.30pm) and stay open until 8 or 9pm.

BOOKS AND NEWSPAPERS

Casa del Libro C/Velázquez 8; 954 222 496. Central bookshop that stocks a range of books in English (and other languages) as well as maps.

El Corte Inglés Pza Duque de la Victoria; http://elcorteingles.es. Seville’s branch of Spain’s major department store chain has designer fashions as well as an excellent supermarket, bookstore and travel agent. It also stocks the international press.

Fnac Avda de la Constitución 8; http://fnac.es. An electronics, music and literature store with a small but well-curated English language section of mostly fiction titles.

Kiosko La Campana La Campana s/n. The city’s best news kiosk with a comprehensive range of international newspapers. It’s located in front of the pastelería La Campana at the northern end of C/Sierpes.

Risko Avda Kansas City 26, close to Santa Justa train station; http://risko.es. Stocks maps and a range of outdoor clothing and equipment.

DESIGNER FASHIONS

Antonio Ortíz C/Velázquez 5; 954 212 059. For those in search of quality (and quirky) footwear.

Loewe Pza Nueva 12; http://loewe.com. Pretty but pricey clothes and bags.

Purificación García Pza Nueva 8; http://purificaciongarcia.com. One of Spain’s most celebrated designers, noted for her simple and stylish lines.

FLAMENCO DressES

Asunción Peña C/Lineros 7; 954 229 952. Traditional flamenco dresses and accessories.

Molina C/Sierpes 11; http://molinaflamenca.es. Exuberant dresses and shoes and chic accessories.

POTS AND TILES

Beatriz Rengifo Ruiz C/Antillano Campos 10. Interesting potter whose pottery shop has a wonderfully ebullient nineteenth-century exterior. Mixes traditional styles with more modern designs.

Cerámica Rocio-Triana C/Antillano Campos 8. Displaying work by Rafael Muñiz, a creative potter producing pieces with a modern slant. He can also create customized painted tile images (any size) to take home or have sent.

Cerámica Santa Ana C/San Jorge 31, near the Puente de Triana; 954 340 908. Good for typically Andalucían souvenirs, with a wide selection of Triana pots and tiles.

Banks and currency exchange Numerous banks around the centre have ATMs, specifically on the Avda de la Constitución and around Plaza Duque de la Victoria. Bureaux de change can be found on Avda Constitución near the cathedral, but banks offer better rates.

Hospital English-speaking doctors are available at Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, C/Dr Marañon s/n (955 008 000), behind the Andalucía parliament building to the north of the centre. For emergencies, dial 061.

Left luggage There are coin-operated lockers (ask for the consigna) at the Santa Justa train station. The Prado de San Sebastián bus station has a left luggage office (daily 9am–9pm), and there’s another consigna at the Plaza de Armas bus station (9.30am–1.30pm & 3–6pm) – note that the locker system is slightly confusing so you may need to ask for assistance.
